I came in as I was visiting another spot close by and I was getting hungry. I was seated promptly and my requested beverage came out quickly. I ordered the crab au gratin, and boy was it delicious. Had there not been anyone nearby, I would have licked the plate clean. The cheesecake for dessert was delicious. Everything was perfect.

. Yellow Bowl has been a regional favorite for longer than I care to admit knowledge of. The restaurant has recently changed hands, from the Roberts-Hulin (Tanya & TK) Family, to an area native Lady based at Scott, a western burb of nearby Lafayette The menu has been trimmed a bit, but all the old favorites are still there. This is real CAJUN cooking, as can't be found in New Orleans. Plenty off-highway parking on gravel lots, some spaces usually shaded. Two sets of restrooms. Full bar. One MAJOR CAVEAT: Although the address is WEST Highway, this business is EAST of Jeanerette, b/t US 90 and the Bayou Teche. And, some minor caveats: Taste the foods BEFORE adding pepper or hot sauce ! Not open for Saturday lunch or Sunday supper. Can be very crowded Friday nights & Sunday lunch-times. It is best to not wear tight clothing to go here. If there is a buffet, skip it & order from the menu. Outstanding specialties are crawfish bisque and fried crawfish; he fried crawfish tails are the absolute best anywhere. Crab dishes are also excellent. Nothing here is really bad. If you are lucky enough to to get a visit from an Old Guy in a wheelchair, humor him. He is T K Hulin, a once-famous Cajun singer & "SwampPop" rock band leader; who has some wonderful tales to tell. This historic eatery is a Southern TREASURE, which the new owner understands, and has preserved its best features. Don't you dare pass-up the Yellow Bowl ! Rick .

Great service! Great food. Popped in here for a late lunch with family who was in from out of state. We had a large party of 12 people (adults & kids) and the staff was very wonderful at accommodating our large group. Food was delicious! I ordered the crab cakes and cup of seafood gumbo. The gumbo was spectacular!!

A restaurant that has been in operation for almost 100 year.. what a concept. It was larger than I expected, a free standing building reminiscent of a small-town-train-stop. Inside there are several separate rooms, perfect for private party. I ordered soft shell crab with fries and potato salad with a plate of sinful beignet sticks dusted in sugar. Our food came pretty quickly, waiter was attentive and all smiles. My soft shell crabs (yep got two in the plate) was humongous, It was bigger than most hard shell crab I've seen. Owner was there to greet everyone, and sung a belting happy birthday to the group nearby. He seemed to be famous as people kept going to him and shaking his hands. As my meal, top notch!.. with enough leftover for two lunches. Next time I'll try their famous etoufee or frog legs top with the bread pudding. My next time, maybe tomorrow.. I like it that much.
